02 · About

therapy, differently

Therapy should feel like a place where you can be yourself.

I've never believed therapy should feel like sitting across from someone who is simply waiting for you to talk about what's wrong. I believe therapy is a space to feel genuinely understood, build skills you can actually use, make sense of what you're experiencing, and discover that you're capable of more than you may realize.

That belief is at the heart of TheraThrive.

As a Colorado LCSW with more than a decade of experience working in mental health, and a particular passion for children, teens, and young adults, I love helping people navigate the real stuff: big emotions, anxiety, stress, relationships, confidence, self-doubt, life transitions, trauma, feeling overwhelmed, or simply trying to figure out who you are and where you fit.

My approach is warm, genuine, strengths-based, and collaborative. I draw from CBT, DBT, mindfulness, solution-focused therapy, somatic practices, and trauma-informed care to create therapy that is both meaningful and practical. Because understanding why you feel the way you do is important, but having tools for what to do when you're overwhelmed, stuck, frustrated, or doubting yourself is pretty important too.

And especially when working with younger clients, I believe therapy shouldn't feel like another class, another lecture, or another adult telling you what you should do. You deserve a therapist who will meet you where you are, listen without judgment, respect your individuality, and help you build skills while still making room for humor, creativity, and being yourself.

For parents, my goal isn't to change who your child is. It's to help them better understand themselves, feel more confident in their ability to handle hard things, strengthen their relationships, and develop skills they can carry with them long after therapy ends.

Therapy is about creating a space where you don't have to have everything figured out. You can show up exactly as you are, and we'll work from there.

TheraThrive offers individual therapy and engaging skills groups designed to help people do more than simply get through life. My hope is that clients leave with a stronger sense of themselves, a bigger toolbox, and the confidence to handle whatever comes next.

07 · Meet Tori

hey, I'm Tori

Welcome! I am so glad you're here.

Tori Rasmussen · LCSW · MSW, Metropolitan State University of Denver · BSW, Colorado State University

I'm Tori Rasmussen, a Colorado Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a Master's in Social Work from Metropolitan State University of Denver and a Bachelor's in Social Work from Colorado State University. I've spent more than a decade working in mental health, with much of my career focused on children, teens, families, and young adults.

But my passion for this work didn't come from textbooks alone. I know what it's like to be in a really hard place.

I experienced trauma during my own childhood and teenage years, and navigating those experiences shaped the person, and therapist, I am today. I know firsthand how much it can matter to have even one person who makes you feel seen, safe, believed in, and supported when life feels overwhelming.

I believe people are not problems to be fixed. Kids aren't 'bad.' Teens aren't 'dramatic.' Adults aren't 'too much.' And struggling doesn't mean you're failing.

I also know that getting through hard things doesn't happen because someone tells you to 'just think positive' or gives you a list of things you should be doing. Sometimes it takes time. Sometimes it takes learning how your nervous system works, understanding why you respond the way you do, practicing new skills approximately 47 times before they actually feel natural, and having someone beside you while you figure it out.

That is a huge part of why I do what I do.

Sometimes your brain and body are doing exactly what they've learned to do to protect you, and therapy can help you understand those patterns, build new tools, and create something different.

My approach is warm, genuine, strengths-based, trauma-informed, and collaborative. I draw from CBT, DBT, motivational interviewing, solution-focused therapy, mindfulness, and somatic approaches, tailoring therapy to the actual person sitting in front of me rather than forcing everyone into the same therapeutic box.

I'm particularly passionate about helping children, teens, and young adults build confidence, emotional regulation, coping skills, self-understanding, resilience, and healthier relationships. I love helping someone go from 'I can't do this' to 'Okay… maybe I can.'

And I don't believe therapy has to be boring.

Depending on the person and the moment, therapy might involve talking, laughing, movement, mindfulness, learning a skill, getting curious about what your nervous system is doing, working through a difficult experience, or figuring out how to survive the group chat without losing your mind. Therapy can be serious and still feel human.

Outside of therapy, I'm usually doing something that makes me wonder why I thought I had enough time for all of my hobbies. I've traveled to more than 30 countries, love hiking, snowboarding, paddleboarding, going to concerts and sporting events, riding my motorcycle, reading, traveling, and generally finding excuses to get outside and experience something new.

And then there's Ravioli, my cat and unofficial TheraThrive consultant. His therapeutic specialties include emotional support, boundary setting, and reminding me that everyone needs a snack break.

But underneath all of that is something pretty simple: I genuinely love people.

I love getting to know someone's story, noticing strengths they don't see in themselves yet, celebrating the tiny wins that other people might overlook, and helping people realize that their hardest chapters don't have to define the rest of their story.

I don't expect my clients to have everything figured out when they walk through the door. You don't need to be 'fixed,' perfectly motivated, or even completely sure that therapy will work.

You just have to be willing to start somewhere. I'll meet you there.

12 · FAQ

Questions, answered.

Have questions about therapy, skills groups, or getting started? You're in the right place. Here are some answers to help you feel more comfortable taking the next step. And remember, you don't have to have everything figured out before reaching out!

Therapy should be more than talking about what's wrong or being told what you should do. At TheraThrive, we focus on helping you understand yourself, recognize your strengths, build practical skills, and create change that actually makes a difference in your everyday life.

My approach is warm, collaborative, strengths-based, and trauma-informed. Everyone deserves to feel understood, supported, and capable of navigating life's challenges. Therapy can be meaningful and effective without feeling stiff, intimidating, or overly clinical. There's room for real conversations, creativity, humor, and being yourself.

TheraThrive offers individualized mental health support for children, teens, young adults, and adults. I'm especially passionate about helping younger clients develop confidence, emotional regulation, coping skills, self-awareness, and healthier relationships.

Whether you're navigating big emotions, anxiety, self-doubt, difficult experiences, relationship challenges, or the sometimes-chaotic process of figuring out who you are, therapy is a great place to start where you are and work toward where you'd like to be.

You don't have to be in crisis or know exactly what's wrong to benefit from therapy. People seek support for many reasons, including:

  • Anxiety, stress, overwhelm, neurodivergence and intense emotions.
  • Confidence, self-esteem, and learning to trust yourself.
  • Trauma and the lasting effects of difficult experiences.
  • Friendship, family, and relationship challenges.
  • Communication, boundaries, and navigating conflict.
  • Life transitions, identity, and personal growth.
  • Coping skills, emotional regulation, and resilience.

We'll work together to understand what you're experiencing and identify tools and goals that make sense for you.

I draw from several therapeutic approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills, solution-focused techniques, mindfulness, and somatic practices.

Rather than using the same approach with everyone, I tailor sessions to your needs, strengths, goals, and stage of life. Sometimes that means talking through an experience. Other times, it means practicing a coping skill, exploring emotional patterns, learning how your body responds to stress, or figuring out how to handle a difficult situation in real time.

The goal is to help you develop both a better understanding of yourself and practical tools you can use outside the therapy session.
